Noticing the lack of an organized Black community in Vancouver higher education, my peers and I formed the UBC Black Student Union. Over the course of the 2018-19 school year, we were able to secure sponsors (Yerba Mate, Red Bull, UBC Alumn), plan and execute numerous successful events (Community Fundraiser, Financial Literacy Workshop, among others), and received the Best New Club award from the Alma Mater Society. Since my graduation, the club has continued to grow and become an essential resource to the community.
