Gavin is a Chartered Engineer and co-founder of the Urban Change Group. He has extensive strategic consultancy, programme management and business and public administration experience gained across a variety of roles in the public, private and the not-for-profit sectors.Over the last 20 years, Gavin has worked on some of the most exciting development projects in the world. He spent 5 years working for the UAE Government in the Middle East, where he developed national policy and strategy in the areas of protective security and community safety. He was the project manager and lead author of the award winning Abu Dhabi Safety and Security Manual (SSPM) and whilst at the Building Research Establishment (BRE), he developed SABRE, the security assurance certification scheme for buildings and infrastructure. Gavin was the inaugural co-chair of the Built Environment Security Special Interest Group (BESSIG) and led the BRE Trust's resilience thematic research programme, the outputs of which now feature in the BREEAM and CEEQUAL assessment criteria for buildings and Infrastructure sustainability certification schemes.In 2015, Gavin published his first book, 'Embedded Security: Procuring an Effective Facility Protective Security System'. He continues to be actively engaged in industry initiatives designed to bring about positive change in the built environment. Recently he supported RICS, UK finance and the UK Builiding Societies Association in the development of EWS1. This initiative helps identify defects in external wall systems that are a risk to occupant safety. It's allows action to be taken to make people safe in their homes and provide assurance to lenders.
