About Gayara De Silva

After my studies in International Business and Economics from Monash University and after a series of internships, I started my career in the apparel and retail industry. I worked as a senior business entrepreneur, working in new product development for brands such as Victoria's Secret, Calvin Klein, GAP, Athleta and HanesBrands. My competencies span over the areas of consumer insights, market research, route-to-market and product strategy, business model innovation, project management and intellectual property management. I migrated to Norway in January 2017 and continued my work from here.In December 2022, together with my husband, we founded our start up, Kollectivet - an online jewelry collective showcasing designer jewelry handmade by Sri Lankan artisans. My inspiration for Kollectivet first began merely from missing my home country, Sri Lanka. I wanted to connect my love for fashion and retail, my skills and expertise, together with my love for Sri Lanka - an island nation with a rich history in gemstones and still today, remains to be one of the single most important sources for sapphires and other gemstones in the world! Kollectivet houses a portfolio of private Sri Lankan brands with products of high quality and craftsmanship. Kollectivet also sells their own private label product. Currently, Kollectivet is the only online multi-brand retail store that provides Sri Lankan designers and artisans an opportunity to sell their products in Norway. Kollectivet hopes to bring the best brands from the Gem Island of Sri Lanka to Scandinavia. My personal interests:- Economic policy and Politics- Jewelry and Gemstones - Photography- Wildlife conservation (with particular attention to the elephants in Sri Lanka)
