Environment engineer working on next generation ATC systems base infrastructure. I am responsible for Cloud based testing infrastructure. This includes network planning and agreeing routing, firewalls, VPNs, before implementing them. I work with application teams to interpret their strategic architecture, and map that onto what can be reasonably delivered for testing in the cloud, from competitive outsourced VCloud systems.This is in effect a brown field deployment, with all aspects of networking and AD within my purview, along with deployment automation and power/time management to control costs. Once designs are agreed, they are deployed and handed back to teams, then ongoing works to assist in the environment in which they are working. Additionally, I am the MSSQL SME for the project, responsible for designing split L2/L3 HA SQL 2017 (also 2016 & 2014) SQL clusters for core systems, such as monitoring, security and Citrix/NetScaler.

Originally drafted internally to perform a security review and manage a hardware EOSL replacement project, I continuted to design/maintain/support the management systems. Moving from multiple single servers to a domain model, implementing messaging, working with 3rd party suppliers to maintain a consistent platform and ensure that systems integrate with Nomura standards and policies. I designed and implemented a domain upgrade from 2003 R2 to 2008 R2 along with a data centre migration. Working closely with suppliers to ensure that their software/systems smoothly migrated to latest OS requirements.

Having implemented several large scale solutions in Risk IT, I was moved in to the global strategy team to design and implement infrastructure for global Risk solutions. Working with the global enterprise architect I was responsible for interpreting requirements and designing and delivering two 1200 core compute grids, application and DB infrastructure including a 5TB OLTP DB platform and managing over 400TB of storage systems, leveraging various technologies. I ran a team with 4 direct reports with a global hardware budget of over $10M. I was also responsible for new data centre infrastructure design/migration for Risk systems as well as all Risk IT capacity planning and yearly IT infrastructure budget forecasting and tracking.

Infrastructure support, design, SQL DBA and BMS systems support for all departments of the London Clinic. I am responsible for SQL platform design across the organisation, as well as legacy application migrations to new infrastructure. Working closely with various areas of the business and BAs to plan application replacements, SQL Server version up-lifts, all newly deployed SQL databases are running on SQL 2012, 2014 or 2016 with synchronous AlwaysOn high availability, running on VMware hosted infrastructure. I authored and implemented backup and housekeeping processes that work with the operating environment in mind. Deployed and/or supporting over 80 SQL Servers, 24 of which are now AAG clusters.

Recruited to review whitelisting and systems regulatory compliance, in conjunction with legacy systems custom support agreements and risk mitigation. Analysing products and working closely with several vendors, solutions to regulatory issues and partial risk mitigation from patching were identified. Other work included DR scenario analysis, including bare metal restores, deep diving into detailed issues surrounding specific issues across the entire RBS estate. Reviewed systems compliance with PCI DSS 3, MAS (Monetary Authority of Singapore), Technology Risk Management and SOX regulatory guidelines.

Employed as MS SQL consultant to cross train Mainframe DBAs for the Microsoft platform. This was to support a new PeopleSoft implementation. My role covered hardware review and re-specification, writing bespoke management and maintenance tools as well as documentation.

Short term contract to design a high spec SQL Server system for a specific devision of Natwest and laterly to provide back-fill resource for the central IT security team on a specific project using IIS4, IE4 and Proxy Server 2.0. I also wrote some tools to automate some IT Security specific management functions.

I was primarily responsible for the specification and ordering of their high spec servers to cope with the ever expanding requirements of the warehouse and solely responsible for their commissioning and installation into the live environment. Following a restructure, I was responsible for re-coding the Data Warehouse to cope with new business structures.

Contracted whilst at Centre-File to provide consultancy, support and implementation of NT Server and MS SQL Server strategy for mission critical customer facing Clint/Server applications. Contract extended to found SQL Support team and train new staff. Contracted direct to Whitbread to provide third level support for SQL Server and Windows NT when Centre-File was broken up. Primarily involved in the development of NT Server strategy including domain structure and tuning also support of bespoke SQL Server replication system (based on Log Shipping). Other activities included development of SQL support tools for SQL Team overnight batch processing and database recovery. Provided support in the last year for a major data warehouse project.

Small piece of work securing a production SQL/NT system. This piece of work grew beyond the originally allocated time due to the complexity and scale of the system. My designs were implemented during my last weeks there. I wrote a number of SQL Server scripts that automate security implementations for all manner of systems.

Started as a trainee, then sent to a number of customer sites to provide technical support, as well as to gain experience in different business areas. I went from this position to contractor when Centre-File was broken up and sold to Logica.
