Senior Principal ConsultantMi-Gso | Pcubed 2007 - 2011Germany, Switzerland, UkI added value by providing 'backbone' to busy teams working on complex programmes and giving practical depth to pre-Sales activities. This was a role where I enjoyed being able to get my teeth into tough delivery work and build team capabilities at the same time. My work included:- Heading PMOs for very large (£70m-£110m) SAP and non-SAP programmes.- Project managing IT and Business Change projects from £10m to £40m.- Building and running cost models for complex programmes and shared service frameworks.- Putting together the Business Cases for IT-enabled Business Change programmes- Ensuring compliance to external and internal standards (e.g. OGC and Treasury Green Book).- Consulting to multiple clients on Portfolio Management, Programme Governance, PMO setup and Project & Programme Management (PPM) improvement.Major engagements were at Criminal Justice IT (CJIT), EurotaxGlass's, Jaguar Land Rover, Office for Criminal Justice Reform (OCJR), Orange UK and Tata Technologies. I was Security cleared by UK Government to SC level.By 2011, after 12 years in Pcubed, I had gone as far as a non-Sales consultant could go, so I set up my own company to focus on PMO and Governance work. -

I also began to work seriously with clients to put in place the right methodologies and templates to build best practice into the way they organised their project and programme management. My work included: - Project Managing IT and Business Change projects from £10m to £40m.- Providing consultancy to help organisations improve how they manage, control and report on projects and operations.- Helping organisations implement and exploit new enterprise-wide PPM technology from Microsoft, PlanView and SAP.- my first formal PMO role.Major engagements included BT Syntegra, Cadbury-Schweppes, Criminal Justice IT (CJIT), DHL, Police IT Organisation (PITO) and UK Home Office. I was Security cleared by UK Government to SC level.This was the role where I experienced in detail the benefits and limitations of PPM tools, and while they definitely have their place I have been sceptical ever since about 'magic bullet' technology. I moved on from this role though internal promotion to Senior Principal Consultant.

My early work here included:- Leading as the Account Manager ($1m account within International Automotive practice)- Training client staff on Project Management methodologies and good practice.- Project Manager for new customer relationship centre in Coventry & Glasgow.- IT Project Manager for a manufacturing joint venture in Köln.- IT workshop facilitator for worldwide FX settlement bank.- Project Planner for a multinational bank's e-commerce project in Barcelona & Frankfurt.- Project Planner for a Vehicle Management System project in Essex & Köln.Major engagements included Advantica, CLS, Deutsche Bank, Ford Motor Company, Getrag Ford Transmissions, Percepta and Sky.During this role I started thinking about how methodologies could add more value by 'thinking backwards' - in other words, if you want outcomes A, B and C at the end, what are the steps you need to be taking at the earlier stages of Analysis or Design? I moved on from this role through internal promotion to Principal Consultant.

Previous RolesRover Group 1988 - 1999Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, UkI joined Rover Group after University and this was where I first experienced working in a diverse team. Because of the Honda influence, it was a good time to learn about business process mapping and continuous improvement. My roles included:- IT Sales & Marketing Systems: Business Analyst.- European Dealer Operations: Product Manager; Implementation Manager.- External Quality Audit: Senior Engineer; Network Quality Manager.After 11 years in Rover Group, the company was experiencing difficulties and implemented an across-the-board pay freeze. I wished them well and left to join a growing young London-based consultancy where I could use my Project Management skills.
