As the founder of Indieus AI and member of the Sightglass Network my objective is to apply my many years of AI/ML development, machine learning engineering, management, and marketing to help companies navigate the increasingly chaotic AI landscape to improve the odds of AI project success.At last count there are at least six commercial large language models (LLMs) and almost 30 open source LLMs. And while LLMs are monopolizing the headlines, there are many other models that support a multitude of use cases including no-code low-code options like Google's AutoML. The result is an increasingly chaotic AI landscape and significant challenges to identifying and successfully implementing AI products and services.A recent poll of data scientists revealed that fewer than 20% of AI projects ever result in a successful implementation. I suspect the percentage is lower. In my experience, the lack of coordination and collaboration between executive management, engineering, and data scientists, and, critically, access to the necessary data, are the main drivers of AI project failure.
