In my role with McPhee Mixers I am expected to supervise my colleagues at the same time as fabricate. I lead by example. Although my job title with McPhee Mixers is ‘fabricator/welder’, my knowledge of heavy engineering has been used to its fullest in the past ten years.Main Roles and Responsibilities:Reporting to the Managing Director and Production Engineer I carry out many tasks...• Participate in design meetings and give my opinion on conceptual and existing designs.• Create new designs based on design briefs.• Interpret engineering drawings from both our internal drawing office and external customers.• Manufacture various assemblies that are used on our concrete mixers and tipper bodies.• Work on ‘special’ projects such as manufacturing chiller frames for Aggreko Industries, manufacturing 10,000 litre water tanks for Barr + Wray, and assemble/fit police van cells for Strathclyde Police.• Work on repairs of heavy machinery including mixers, demountable tippers, JCB’s, gritters and forklifts.I recognise the importance of building good relationships with colleagues, being approachable to others who seek guidance in their work and also pulling my weight and contributing in a team.I am also aware that communication is a crucial skill and I am effective in both liaising with senior management and delivering specific instructions to my team.
