I am a senior research and development (R&D) director with 16 years of experience leading innovative research in the life sciences industry. Employing creativity and strategic vision, I build world-class teams focused on RNA enzyme discovery, characterization, and technology development. I excel at fostering partnerships and collaboration, driving the commercialization of CRISPR-Cas reagents and new enzymes advancing RNA therapeutics. A skilled communicator and expert presenter, I’m adept at translating complex concepts into accessible content. I’ve co-authored 30+ scientific publications and am named on 6 patents. Intrinsically curious about how things work, RNA biology captured my attention early on. I immersed myself in the study of genetics/molecular biology and jumped at the opportunity to start a new program in RNA research at the world-renowned New England Biolabs (NEB). I established and developed scientific teams in 6 new research areas, leading RNA and programmable nucleases product portfolios that are realistic, timely, on track, and properly resourced. Keeping an eye on the big picture, I designed a 3-way research collaboration that included the founding of biotechnology company, CaSzyme. Through the collaboration with CaSzyme and Corteva Agriscience, we produced 2 peer-reviewed publications, multiple scientific conference presentations, and the commercialization of a novel nuclease. Additional collaborations include initiating and managing a $3M NSF consortium grant with academic partners to understand the biological roles of RNA modifications. Passionate about scientific discovery and empowering diverse communities, I led NEB’s RNA research division through the COVID-19 shutdown, maintaining staff safety and R&D continuity amid manufacturing expansion and demand for products to support pandemic response.
