o I worked with Dr. Joshua Shulman at The Laboratory for Integrative Functional Genomics. I coordinated the daily operations of multiple research projects:- Exploring genetic links between pediatric and adult neurodegenerative disorders: The goal of this study is to explore the heritability of Parkinson's Disease (PD) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD). The discovery that GBA (glucocerebrosidase) mutations increase PD susceptibility calls into question whether the same can be observed in other lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs). Therefore, our target group of interest are genes associated with causing LSDs. Our goal is to discover novel risk alleles for PD and AD. - Risk and progression in Parkinson’s Disease: A cohort study (RAPPID):The overall purpose of this study is to identify genetic and other factors that influence the risk and/or progression of PD, including heterogeneity in clinical manifestations. To accomplish this, we recruit and follow a cohort of patients with PD or mild PD-related symptoms as well as control subjects without PD. We collect longitudinal information from interviews, questionnaires, blood sampling for genetic analysis, and clinical assessments, including sensitive detection of motor impairment using a sensor device worn on a belt during the evaluation.- Collection of clinical data and DNA/RNA samples for neurodegenerative disorders:A long-term effort to collect and process blood/saliva samples; maintaining multiple online databases and performing PCR/Sanger sequencing to confirm genetic mutations.- Perspectives of Mexican Americans about precision medicine for Alzheimer's Disease:We will use thematic analysis of qualitative interviews with a sample of Spanish-speaking Mexican/Mexican Americans about the words they use to describe aspects of precision medicine for AD. We will learn from the target audience what is most salient in communications about comprehensive genomic information, a key element of precision medicine for AD.

- Conducted 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-ups with patients by phone (15 cases weekly) who had suffered from ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes to assess post-surgery performance- Contributed to weekly lab meetings (~10 peer researchers) with physician to review/discuss research- Developed facility with reviewing CAT & MRI scans; collaboratively evaluated patient cases
