Nils Vanhassel is a Belgian tax lawyer and a member of the Brussels bar. He is a Senior Associate working within the tax practice at DLA Piper, one of the largest business law firms in the world.Before joining DLA Piper, Nils worked at Big 4 accounting firm PwC and Tiberghien lawyers, a leading Belgian tax law firm. He also worked in a Dubai-based boutique tax firm for several years.Nils holds an LL.M. (Master of laws) from the University of Ghent and a postgraduate in Tax Law from the Brussels Tax College. He also obtained an Advanced Professional Certificate in International Taxation (APCIT) from the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD).Nils has been working in the Middle East since 2017. Since coming to the Gulf region, Nils has gained extensive experience with taxation in the GCC, advising both multinational and local companies as well as (semi)government entities on complex tax matters. During his career, Nils has worked for clients in a variety of sectors, which contributed to his excellent business acumen.Nils combines strong technical capabilities with a pragmatic and solution-oriented approach. He regularly gives presentations on various tax topics and is a frequent author of articles on taxation in the EU and GCC. Nils also co-authored several reference works on Belgian VAT, such as the Tiberghien Tax Law Manual and the VAT Manual published by Larcier.
