CAE USA is a flight simulator and maintenance training device manufacturer located in Tampa, FL. My current position at CAE USA involves conducting Test and Evaluation of helicopter flight simulators and electrical/electronic maintenance training devices for US Navy MH-60R and MH-60S helicopters. In this position, I evaluate trainer functionality and associated documentation (maintenance procedures, functional specifications, configuration, and associated electrical diagrams) according to Department of Defense contract specifications. I provide first-line quality assurance of devices during the development phase and during customer evaluation. My primary focus is delivering a technically accurate, quality product; however, it is necessary to work with the combined Integrated Product Team (IPT) and be sympathetic to cost and schedule concerns. The position involves extensive electrical and computer troubleshooting during the delivery phase of projects. During site set-up, contractor testing, and final configuration audits, wiring deviations and cable separations are commonplace. My test team and I spend countless hours with multi-meters, diagrams, and other assets to bring the trainers into a functional state prior to government acceptance. Our simulators are primarily driven by the LINUX operating system, programmed in C++. I have gained experience working with LINUX and C++ to fine-tune simulator qualities. Another responsibility of my current position is preparing and presenting weekly, quarterly, and yearly status reports to Department of Defense Program Offices on the status of flight simulators and training devices, authoring test plans, conducting test readiness reviews, and finalizing government acceptance guides for device delivery. I work directly with CAE program management to provide accurate Earned Value metrics to meet company and project goals.
