Teaching a graduate level course on Big Data Strategies, Services and Analytics. This course prepares students to contribute as analysts, engineers or architects on enterprise projects requiring big data platforms and technologies while also understanding and appreciating the role of Data Science in today's business environment.I have also conducted a seminar on career management for technology professionals and graduate students, and I am working with other local colleges and universities to support entrepreneurship, tech startup, and tech career programs on a volunteer basis.

Led a world-class engineering team that has delivered one of the industry's most innovative browser-based page builders, a high performance API gateway and integration middleware, a new identity management system, an event-driven data services platform connected to over 20 integration partners, a new data science program, and the industries first open stack platform for marketing automation.

Building version 2.0 of LeadPages, an industry leader in digital marketing tools and services with over 20k customers and millions of landing pages served every day. During my first year our engineering department:1) Grew the core engineering team from 25 to 65 wonderful and talented people with 5% churn and retention of the senior technical leaders that helped launch the company.2) Delivered product enhancements and new tools to help drive significant growth and become the fastest growing startup in MN.3) Transitioned from full stack developers to specialists with multiple new roles and career paths, established a devops practice and culture, and transitioned from mostly manual testing to 80% plus test automation coverage.4) Improved system stability and uptime while introducing new cloud services, a more modular architecture and infrastructure, and a hybrid Software Development Life Cycle process.

• Initiated big data and open source pilot projects to demonstrate integrated approaches to large scale data interaction, composite and dynamic rules based services, analytics, and storage.• Orchestrated significant shifts in enterprise architecture policies and capabilities around browser based frameworks, UX engineering, microservices, event driven architecture and exception handling.• Drove the re-architecture and project turnaround of the enterprise portal, serving dynamic content to thousands of concurrent users across hundreds of groups and departments.• Led the design of new content targeting capabilities along with federated security, enterprise search, and enterprise social networking.• Recruited to lead the technical solution for a new home connections line of business delivering a unique retailing platform for major media and communications service providers.• Provided architecture and project leadership on multiple applications advancing partner promotions, online delivery and activations around gaming and other digital download or subscription based products.

• Directed the product and engineering efforts for the company’s two unified communications products, Concourse & Portico, resulting in marquis customers and multiple industry awards such as the 2009 Red Herring Award and the 2009 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award.• Led professional services engagements to include enterprise architecture and strategy oversight for Fortune 500 clients while providing engineering leadership, technical architecture, strategy and governance across US, India, and Serbia based software teams.• Acting VP of Engineering for Atigeo, a software start-up supplying advanced correlation and inference engines under evaluation by major media companies. Restructured Atigeo’s product architecture, methodologies and engineering management to dramatically improve measured code quality, SaaS uptime, and reduce turnover of critical staff.• Led design and code reviews with West Coast, Canadian, and Romanian software teams, and drove the transition from a .NET based product company to a new Java team porting over to Apache Tomcat, Cassandra, and Lucene/Solr.

• Turned around T-Mobile’s Next-Generation Retail store initiative, first saving the business model at the CXO level and then re-architecting everything from the middleware forward to deliver rich media applications and an entirely new customer experience.• Led vendor evaluations and negotiations, identifying performance and cost optimizations that resulted in the 40% cost reductions required for the program to move forward.• Directed enterprise architects and software development teams to design and implement new content management and partner media management relationships to provide an integrated customer experience in the store while still satisfying all systems and transaction management requirements from both T-Mobile and nearly a dozen partner organizations.• Interviewed and re-assigned all T-Mobile managers, staff and contractors as needed to conform to the program and project team structure created for this enterprise initiative.• Managed the build out of T-Mobile test and integration labs while also working on-site with major suppliers to validate component integrity and performance.

• Performed as interim VP of Architecture for EchoStar Communications (Dish Networks) and as Engineering Liaison for the EchoStar CIO, bridging the corporate culture and technology gaps between Denver based IT operations and the Atlanta based engineering center.• Selected to lead many key enterprise initiatives for EchoStar CIO, to include billing system evaluations and CRM consolidation, improved quality assurance and requirements management.

Providing executive consulting services to organizations seeking technical oversight and strategic guidance. Leading or participating in business case development, staff and process assessments, and vendor evaluations.• Consulted with Pioneer Health Partners and Athena Health to build a technology practice, serve key clients in the development of health care and insurance systems data integration, and manage healthcare portal projects for a large non-profit physicians group.

Built a supplier of leading-edge broadband consulting and integration solutions serving notable clients such as AT&T Broadband, The Weather Channel, RoadRunner and Thomson Multimedia (RCA). Responsible for emerging technologies and executive management as well as providing senior consulting services to clients.• Developed and managed new accounts, taking the business from ground zero to over one million dollars in annual revenue in less than 24 months.• Led critical, groundbreaking projects for AT&T Broadband, directly advising senior executives such as CIO, SVP Marketing, VPs of Operations and IT while leading technical teams tasked with integrating systems and services across existing billing, CRM and EAI infrastructure. Praised by senior executives for results in moving projects forward and providing valuable feedback regarding procedures and organizational issues between AT&T and joint ventures such as RoadRunner.• Consulted as the interim CTO of Mediapike, led the company through technical and market trials of their media streaming and management products while also supporting partner and investor activities, invited by founders and lead investors to join company as full time CTO. Performed duties as a product manager, project manager, and engineering lead with a small staff of two java developers and one analyst. Conducted focus groups, trial server installs and integration tests at Brown University.• Consulted as the interim CTO of Thomson Home Health Services, worked with senior executives of Thomson Multimedia to correctly define and position the new venture with both internal and external partners. Worked with RCA engineers to develop a national server and set top box appliance software architecture as well as OSS and CRM systems able to integrate with RCA’s global data centers.

Represented IT on a small cross functional team tasked with developing business cases for digital services and then leading their planning, engineering and deployment on a national basis. Served as a senior member on the IT R&D staff, leading the technical integration and deployment of phase one digital television services in three major markets.• Technical Lead across multiple software development, vendor testing and delivery, and systems integration projects. Provided administrative project reports to regional executives and corporate headquarters while also managing software engineers and vendors developing application gateways using Java and Oracle to integrate with mainframe billing systems and various Unix and Windows based server systems that controlled customer access, content management, account and configuration data.• Facilitated relationships with set top box manufacturers new to the North American cable market, providing MediaOne with important cost options that drove new business plans. Directed the software integration activities across multiple vendors to launch new digital services.• Led MediaOne’s premiere CRM initiative, Project Vector, an advanced distributed computing effort focused on providing a modular software development and maintenance approach to address the needs of convergent business support systems across high-speed data, cable, digital cable and telephony. Performed as the lead corporate Project Manager reporting to the CIO and managing or coordinating various sub-projects and vendor efforts. This was the largest enterprise project in an IT department with more than 200 employees and an annual IT budget in excess of 100 million dollars.

Responsible for end-to-end systems integration efforts on large scale projects for each of the three parent organizations (TELE-TV was a partnership of Bell Atlantic, Nynex, and Pacific Telesis). Led project management, application integration, testing and delivery teams. Worked directly with company senior executives to structure vendor relationships and position TELE-TV products and consulting talent for international markets.

Led many new projects and initiatives for the Austin division to include data analytics, geographic information and knowledge based systems, and classified software development projects. Selected to lead one of the few exclusive teams at Lockheed tasked with productizing defense technologies in the commercial marketplace and developing new lines of business.
