I just realized that LinkedIn automatically calculates the years and months you've been working at a job. It seems to me that's still too coarse, and if they asked for the hours, minutes, and seconds of the time you got hired there could be little counters updating every second showing a more precise estimate of how long you had been in one position. It would be like watching your life pass by and perhaps give people a sense of how truly pointless LinkedIn is. Tick ... tick ... tick.

At one point, I thought it was important to have a semi-serious profile here, as if anyone would look at it, or care what I said. PSU is great. I fondly remember taking a fluid mechanics course here when I was in grad school at OGC (which as I mention below no longer exists). The professor who taught the course is now the provost. He obviously doesn't remember me, since I'm still employed here. This just goes to show that even if a wound doesn't get healed by time, at least the pain can fade… Show more At one point, I thought it was important to have a semi-serious profile here, as if anyone would look at it, or care what I said. This was a great job because I was off-site, so I got to take all my training courses online, and they let you fast forward to just take the quiz. Show less

I'm told RPI changed its name to just R. That gives me the distinction of having positions at two separate institutions that no longer exist. It's sort of like being Typhoid Mary, except I don't get to make rich people sick.
