In one of the most successful companies in the fastest growing industry in the country, the work I’ve been developing has been essential for the growth of the online presence of Black Pepper & Basil in all its forms.Initially hired to create content for the website and social media, my work at Black Pepper & Basil has grown in importance, scope and variety over the last year. From designing flyers, internal branding and social media content, developing and presenting proposals to multinational companies (Diageo, Schweppes), product photography and copywriting for various purposes, my work has become crucialfor the creative output of the company.

As Assistant Manager in a recently opened retail environment with one of the most specialized and eclectic product lists outside of London, I was responsible on a daily basis for ensuring the smooth running of the shop and maintaining social media presence. As a long term goal I was tasked with creating projects, such as store membership and multi-buy deals to generate and sustain growth for the shop and the brand. In a highly competitive environment I was able to, by securing important partnership agreements and closely monitoring both the profitability and the quality of the content, generate several projects that have significantly increased customer visits and loyalty, as well as vastly improving the brand recognition in social media and traditional mediums. In this position I had the opportunity of learning more about the spirits and wines trade, especially in a B2B setting. I have also practiced my long-term planning and research skills in order to help the success of the shop. As a result I now feel confident in the formulation and managing of projects to completion, including keeping with budgetary constraints and calculating profitability.

Arriving during the inception of this concept, I was able to use my knowledge to aid in the creation of a wine and spirits list and to bring the project to fruition. During this period I was also in charge of managing social media presence as well as the content of the website and online shop. I have also held the responsibility of developing several marketing and promotional campaigns, such as themed wine packs, free tastings and promotion of upcoming events. During my time as Assistant Manager our bar has turned into one of the most popular bars in Worcester, with a large group of regulars and an online following.

In creating a business to import Portuguese wine to Ireland and distribute it to different off-licenses I have gained experience and knowledge on the start-up creation process. I learned to deal with different customers and developed my negotiation skills as well as having obtained skills in business to business transactions. As preparation for the business I passed the WSET Level 2 Award Examination in Wines and Spirits.

Working as a bartender in a busy Lisbon bar and concert venue I learned how to deal with customers in a constantly changing environment. In this position I developed serving techniques and customer relations and also gained a passion for mixology and learned several cocktail recipes. I was in charge of the register often, having learned both how to operate it and the responsibility that is associated with these tasks.

I worked as an English teacher in two schools in Cambodia and my job functions included grammar and vocabulary lessons, extended to informing my students about European and American lifestyle and culture, as well as computer classes. I greatly improved my organization skills and my ability to keep up with a schedule, while at the same time becoming more responsible. By being a teacher, I also improved my leadership skills and shown myself able to more easily adapt to new cultures in many different environments.
