Profile bio

About Greg Deffenbaugh

I have extensive experience in high technology ranging from military sonar systems through data center technology to, most recently, IoT and cybersecurity. I look for opportunities with good technical challenges and good teams. This philosophy has taken my career down an interesting path: • life critical systems• real-time software system design• HA datacenter systems• enterprise storage• SDN fabric networking• KubernetesI started my work life growing up on a wheat farm, where I learned a strong sense of goal attainment and urgency. In farming, if you miss a target, you wait a year. My love of the outdoors caused me to buy a fixer-upper in the middle of four wooded acres bordered by water on three sides. It is a great place for remote employment; hard to beat the view out the window and only 20 minutes to a regional airport.I have worked with many people who have spent their careers in one field, they know that field extremely well, but often have trouble communicating with non-specialists. I believe thinking outside the box is improved when you have lived outside the box. I apply my varied technical experience to look at the value of technology from different perspectives enabling better communication.Couple of examples:• Applying sonar technology to Wi-Fi location service to track mobile devices in retail spaces• Comparing the transition from selling storage by the GB to selling information management to transitioning from selling networking by the port to selling SDN fabric solutions. My varied experience also comes in handy when discussing solutions in terms of the customer’s problem space, such as relying on my real-time, life-critical system background when discussing IoT challenges with an industrial automation company.Expertise:SDS, SDN, SDDC, HCI, Enterprise Storage, IoT, NAS, SAN,, Linux, file systems, SMB, NFSg.deffenbaugh@cox.net401-304-7375

Listed skills include Iscsi, Nas, Fcoe, Enterprise Storage, and 47 others.
