Mr. Nichols has 40 years of experience in engineering; twenty three years as a consulting electrical engineer, 3 years as an electrical contractor, and 14 ½ years in manufacturing. As Senior Electrical Engineer at JEI Engineering, Mr. Nichols is responsible for all electrical engineering at the company. This includes power distribution, lighting, instrumentation and controls, specifications, procurement of major equipment, fire alarms, grounding, and lightning protection. He also performs all electrical device coordination, fault current, and arc flash studies.As Energy Manager at Shaw Industries Group, Inc. for 12 years, Mr. Nichols was responsible for starting the energy management department at the company. He was the first person to hold the position. The department grew to 7 people being responsible for all aspects of energy management at Shaw. The department was responsible for 10’s of millions of dollars in savings in both procurement and conservation. At the time of his departure from Shaw overall energy savings was 15% on a 2007 baseline year.As Electrical Engineer at Shaw Industries Group, Inc. for 2 years, Mr. Nichols was responsible for electrical engineering for Shaw’s 14 carpet plants as well as power quality/reliability at the corporate data center. He was responsible for both instr/controls and power distribution. All aspects of the project were managed by Mr. Nichols, including design, engineering, specifications, procurement, contractor selection, construction management, and startup.As a consulting engineer at Stone & Webster, his responsibilities included project management and engineering/design. Projects under his direction included commercial, residential and industrial design; systems designed include lighting, power distribution (480V, 2300V, 4160V, & 13kV), comm, fire alarm, security, cctv and lightning prot. systems.
