Scalene Global Solutions is an LLC consulting company dedicated to helping globally scale up new technology, primarily in the area of renewables and environment. Scalene also seeks to support innovations in the area of global development including alternative dispute resolution and peace stabilization by building creative collaborations across business, government and NGO sectors.

I worked with a group of dedicated scientist diplomats in the Office of the Secretary's Science and Technology Advisor to build creative partnerships with the STEM community that advance U.S. interests and help scale up proven breakthroughs in the area of sustainability. Our challenge was moving an innovation-resistant bureaucratic culture to think disruptively. I respresented the State Department in LAUNCH, a global sustainabilty program bringing together State, Nike, NASA and USAID in support of science and technology breakthroughs that help promote sustainability. My focus was on expanding LAUNCH's global reach, particularly in Latin America. I helped develop new tech products for the State Department's work in conflict spaces around the globe. The challenge was to use tech, not as a one-off but as a vehicle to build our local field networks faster and enrich the design of our overseas engagements. We tapped open source technology and leveraged pro-bono work from international technologists to build new partnerships between local civil society and social activist techies. Our priority work focused on some of the most intractable conflicts in the world, e.g., Syria, Burma, and on violence reduction efforts in Kenya and Northern Central America. There were smaller operations, mostly in Africa, and evaluation of new missions in Nigeria, Mali, Southern Sudan, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Maldives, Libya, DRC, and Somalia.

I designed and helped implement a new role for the Partnerships office during an organization-wide effort to build new integrated teams to manage our overseas engagements. As part of that effort, I expanded our network of partners to include NGO's, social enterprises, and friendly governments in support of high impact, short term deployments focused on conflict prevention, crisis response and stabilization. We implemented an aggressive rebranding strategy. It was start-up, reorg, and merger at the same time and required us to rework key missions, establish new processes, and reorder priorities.

The focus was on reforming the delivery of humanitarian assistance and promoting disaster risk reduction and resilience. A successful new collaboration brought together key players at State and USAID in a successful effort to seek reforms from UN Emergency Relief Coordinator. We achieved better coordination with donors, more efficient relief flows and progress in streamlining UN's recruiting, senior appointments and delivery practices.

Manged 20 person political section in the second largest U.S. Mission overseas (2000+ staff, 45 U.S. government agencies working at Embassy). Directed political reporting from Embassy and coordinated our reports out of 9 consulates operating across Mexico. Senior political advisor to Ambassador.

I spent a year working with one of the Senator's legislative directors on education and labor issues. We ran a successful effort to reauthorize a controversial program providing educational vouchers for low income students in DC. I did alot of advocacy work with labor unions, business groups and education stake holders on a wide range of issues, including the AARP recovery bill and the Employee Free Choice Act (card check). I also worked on some Foreign Policy issues, including the Cuban embargo and an innovative educational exchange with China.

Political work at U.S. Embassies abroad. Wide range of work including risk assessment, partnering with host governments, military base and peace negotiations, multilateral diplomacy, experience dealing with UN, EU, NATO, OSCE both headquarters and field operations, strategic communication,commercial promotion and U.S. business advocacy, organizing senior level visits, extensive experience as speechwriter and as political analyst with extensive operational writing. .

Reinforced risk assesment and strengthened bank's ability to quantify and manage risk exposure at subsidiaries in Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Hong Kong, Italy, and Germany. Over 20 onsite credit reviews involving senior managers at Chase's global subsidiaries.
