I have more than 40 years experience writing about technology—music technology, in particular—for print and for the Web. I wrote the first book about Mac-based music production (Music and the Macintosh, 1989) and another that some consider a classic on electronic music (The Rock Synthesizer Manual, 1983; revised edition, 1986). I also collaborated with Bob Moog and other authors on The Musical PC (1992).Along with my business partners, I founded the Web-based magazine SYNTH AND SOFTWARE and was its executive editor until I retired in September 2020.I wrote hundreds of articles for the magazine Electronic Musician, beginning with the first issue in 1985, and I was a full-time EM editor for 10 years. As senior editor, I assigned and coordinated product reviews and provided content for both EM and emusician.com. As a synthesist, I’ve been designing sounds and working in recording studios since the mid-‘70s, including a few years running the synth suites in three major Atlanta studios. In addition to writing about music and technology for Synth and Software, EM, Keyboard, Mix, and other publications, I wrote and designed the digital book Asheville’s Top 10 Dining Experiences, available from Apple’s iBookstore. I'm also an experienced ghostwriter and spent over a year coauthoring a book with the CEO of a major media company.I have been a dedicated Mac user since its introduction in 1984. I am well-versed in WordPress; Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator; Apple Final Cut Pro and iBooks Author; most major DAW platforms and audio editors; and dozens of synthesizers and audio processors.
