As senior engineer, I have several responsibilities within the engineering department. Primarily I lead new product development and continuous improvement on existing products, where I:• Design and develop any new products. This could be in an improvement of an existing product or a completely new and unique product. Hand calculations and FEA are performed, where necessary, to confirm the suitability of the design.• Drive continuous improvement of existing products to streamline either the manufacture or the design process and increased productivity.I am also a member of the GSE (Ground Support Equipment) division, where I drive the design and development of GSE products, sharing my knowledge from a previous role. I also troubleshoot build issues during production.When required, I also work on standard road trailer product lines, such as curtainsiders, box vans, double decks (fixed and moving) refrigeration trailers (single and double deck). I implement improvements to the design or process whenever an opportunity arises. Having worked on standard products since joining Cartwrights, I possess the product knowledge to allow me to drive product development and continuous improvement. For every project I:• chair review meeting with all stakeholders to clarify customer’s requirements.• produce workable designs together with relevant manufacturing drawings• compile job packs for each department• raise RFP (request for purchase) for all required components• populate bills of materials within the company’s the MRP system• provide support during manufacturing and assembly. All design work is undertaken using Solidworks and AutoCAD design packages. I also perform hand calculations and FEA for more complex and unusual projects to confirm suitability of designs.I mentor the other members providing guidance on engineering, CAD and company procedures/processes.I also perform managerial duties and oversee the department in the absence of the engineering manager.

Joining the GSE (ground support equipment) company at the request of the general manager, I had been given the task of completely rebuilding the engineering department, applying updates and improvements, also identifying key performance indicators and setting objectives to assess departmental progress. Analysing existing engineering and operating procedures to identify methods to improve efficiency and productivity of the department as well as the rest of the company. Attending monthly management meetings, I produced department progress reports and participated in determining company targets and business strategies. I was solely responsible for the implementation and maintenance of a new quality procedure for the department, allowing the company to regain its ISO 9001 quality management certification. On completion of design and manufacture, I supervised installation and commissioned all types of machines in the new build factory in Nanchang (China) On site, my responsibilities included delegating duties to the installation team in adherance to the installation schedule, attend design meetings, liaise with the maintenance department to advise on maintenance procedures, troubleshooting any machine operating issues, sourcing materials and parts for any missing items and write progress reports to update the senior management in head office back in the UK.

Working within this structural engineering consultancy, I assisted in over thirty bridge and culvert inspections along the M6 and M55 motorways as well as some for British Rail. For these jobs I was responsible for producing sketches with the symbols for cracks/spalls and drafting reports for approval. Responsible for the production of structural steelwork, reinforced concrete and timber drawings for new build office and apartment blocks in various sites throughout the northwest. I also carried out numerous house subsidence monitoring inspections for insurance loss adjusters, after which I completed reports on progress. In the event of a claim, I also completed calculations and drawings for remedial repairs.
