Geert obtained a master’s degree in Corporate Law and Financial Law as well as a master’s degree in Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. After having worked as an attorney-at-law (advocaat) at Allen & Overy LLP in Amsterdam and Nauta Dutilh in Rotterdam, he now works as an attorney-at-law and head legal at Vereniging van Effectenbezitters (VEB), the Dutch Shareholders’ Association, in The Hague. He acts as lead counsel for VEB in legal cases such as class actions (art. 305a DCC) against global retailer Steinhoff, audit firm Deloitte (re. Ahold), Dutch retailer Super de Boer (re. price sensitive information / market abuse) and oil & gas company BP (re. misleading information / market abuse). Furthermore he is putting forward the position and interests of VEB in the broad public debate on class actions, audit and the disclosure of financial information. His publications in Tijdschrift Ondernemingsrecht (Company Law) and Het Financieele Dagblad focus on class actions, corporate law, audit and the disclosure of financial information. Together with Professor Tomas Arons, the Dutch class action expert, he wrote the Chronicle Dutch Class Actions and Settlements 2016 in the Corporate Litigation Yearbook 2016/2017.
