"From Dosimetry to Damage: Unravelling the biological effects of ionising radiation in Arabidopsis thaliana"I performed my PhD in Biology (Radioecology) at the Biosphere Impact Studies research unit at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK CEN). The work was performed under the promotion of the University of Hasselt (Centre for Environmental Science) and funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO)During my research, I investigated the effects of different types of chronic ionising radiation on the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana at the morphological, physiological and molecular levels. First, a novel dynamic dosimetry model was created for roots and shoots of Arabidopsis seedlings to perform accurate dosimetry. Secondly, we investigated the age-dependent effects of ionising radiation on plant seedlings. And finally, the dose dependent effects of alpha radiation and beta radiation (delivered by radionuclides) were compared.
