Batang Pinangga is een kindertehuis op de Filippijnen voor kinderen tot 18 jaar. “Batang Pinangga” betekent “kind om lief te hebben” of “geliefd kind”. Op het moment wonen er 45 kinderen in de leeftijd van 2 tot 18 jaar. De kinderen zijn misbruikt, mishandeld en verwaarloosd. Batang Pinangga geeft het kind een dak boven het hoofd, eten, onderwijs en bovenal liefde.

Vanuit Stichting Batang Pinangga is het Youth Ambassadors project opgericht. Het Youth Ambassadors project geeft jongeren (tussen de 16-25 jaar) de mogelijkheid om vrijwilligerswerk te doen op de Filippijnen. De jongeren betalen hun vliegticket en onkosten helemaal zelf! Het geld wat zij ophalen, komt op die manier volledig ten goede van de kinderen van Batang Pinangga!Door het Youth Ambassadors project gaan de jongeren bewust nadenken over hun leven hier en het leven ergens aan de andere kant van de wereld. Zij zullen, vanuit hun rol als ambassadeurs ook hun leeftijdgenoten in Nederland bereiken, informeren en enthousiasmeren. De Youth Ambassadors zullen ervaren hoe het is om een steentje bij te dragen aan ontwikkelingssamenwerking en hoe het voelt om je belangeloos in te zetten voor kansarme kinderen, jongeren en leeftijdgenoten in de Filippijnen. De Youth Ambassadors zullen tevens hun vrienden, kennissen en klasgenootjes laten zien hoe gemakkelijk het eigenlijk is om je in te zetten voor de medemens en wat dit met hun als persoon doet.www.YouthAmbassador.nl
