Technical Manager for the northern Norway regional office of Datametrix (subsidiary of Telenor). In addition to the management of the local technical staff I'm working as a skilled Cisco network engineer mainly focusing on the design, implementation and troubleshooting of large-scale service provider MPLS and enterprise networks. The networks designed include anything from regional and domestic to world-wide coverage in the areas of finance, service provider, utility (smart grid), health care, maritime and other large enterprises. Special focus on Cyber Security design and implementation for the finance (mostly banks) and power utility companies. Project manager and designer for the cyber security resiliency of the systems handling all credit card transactions, Bank-ID and payroll systems of Norway.

Chief Scientist and part of the management at Pronea AS. Responsible for all design and development of one of the largest service provider networks in Norway. Designed a resilient 10Gb/s network throughout Norway with connections to a Scandinavian cooperation resulting in Europe’s largest open network, as well as being one of the largest internet transit providers in Norway.

Nætt AS was the operational company from a split of Bredbandsfylket Troms in two parts - operation and ownership of physical fiber.

CTO at Bredbåndsfylket Troms. Designed and implemented a service provider network covering over 200 metric miles of fiber including over 400 Cisco routers/switches. Provides transport, internet, telephony and IPTV for our customers. A lot of the work dealt with the project management of the physical implementation of fiber throughout the county.

Fiberringen Tromsø is a collaboration between 6 major companies in Tromsø, responsible for building a complete fiber infrastructure covering the Tromsø island and surrounding areas. I was also the project leader.

Senior Engineer at the central computing centre, University of Tromsø. Project manager for the relocation of the core technical equipment for the department. Designed the new central data center facility for the university. Project manager and supervisor for the design and implementation of the largest fiber ring installation in Tromsø. Head of the steering committee with members from all six owners of the ring. Consultant for a broadband project based on fiber for Saltdal city council. Part of the Troms county broadband project. Main responsibility for the northern part of the county as well as the network equipment. Part time employee of Uninett ABC, responsible for aiding schools at all levels in Troms County to gain broadband access.

Manager of Operations for Fast Search & Transfer, Inc. I was responsible for the design, build out and operation of the Santa Clara (Silicon Valley) data center. The data center consisted of Intel based servers powered by FreeBSD running Fast Search’s AllTheWeb.com and MultiMedia/FTP/MP3 search engines. I was also the project manager and data center manager for the consolidation of the major data centers within Fast Search & Transfer (designed and supervised the consolidation of the Boston and Santa Clara data centers into a single big data center in Sacramento, CA). All services had fully redundant network and power. High availability, security and monitoring were key elements. Designed and implemented a real time monitoring system capable of notifying 24x7 personnel in case of problems.

Consultant at SINTEF/Runit AS in Oslo. Work description summary: Project manager for several Unix, network and security projects. Data center design and implementation. Administration of Unix servers (including HP V/N/K/J-class), of which some in High Availability clusters. Administration of Cisco routers and switches (including dialup). Responsible for complete redesign of unix installation (which goal was high availability, security, and automatic/remote administration). Development of tools for automatic installation of new unix hosts. Design and implementation of highly secure services based upon NetBSD. Security analysis of unix installations. Log filtering and monitoring. Development of services for automatic registration of DNS data in the top level zone for Norway.

Chief engineer and head of technical staff at the department of Computer Science at the University of Tromsø. The job was to supervise the technical staff that administered a large installation of HP unix workstations. It included personnel management, budget, investments, future planning, and job scheduling for all employees. The technical staff’s duty was to increase the security, availability and quality of technical support to research, administration and educational activities. Developed a web based project tracking system, used by the technical staff to document the time used on each task. Developed a graphical web based presentation of live weather data which were in use for several years. Developed the HP-UX kernel driver to grab live video images from an EISA hardware video card, using I²C internally on the card.Speaker at a local security conference (for the national computer society) where I held a talk on “Unix and security”.

Senior executive officer at the department of Computer Science at the University of Tromsø. As a system and network administrator my main duties was to support a network of approximately 100 HP workstations. It included OS and application upgrades, as well as user support. Responsible for the security of the installation. Developed a tool for collecting, parsing, and displaying log information based upon which responsibilities each person had. The system included intrusion detection and alerting. Developed policy routines in case of security breaches. Upgraded the local LAN to 100VG-AnyLan with ATM backbone. Developed the world’s first web and email based interface between the internet and GSM cellular phones (based on short message services).

Part time system administrator during studies. The primary work was to support the undergraduate laboratories, including network, OS and application upgrades. Developed and installed the backup software and routines.

Part time network/system administrator at the Norwegian College of Fishery. Main duties included OS and application support/upgrading on SUN workstations. Also supported a network based upon Microsoft for Workgroups. Developed a software system for tracking and logging GPS data on fishery boats. Implemented the world’s first internet web based page dedicated for the OS/2 operating system (before IBM even had web pages), including collecting all IBM announcements automatically through gopher.

Part time application developer for the Norwegian telecom company, Telenor. Developed a Windows based application that kept track of all phone booths in the district. The system detected phone failures, and made a daily report over which phones that needed to be emptied for money and which ones that had been broken into.

Developed a pupils database for the junior high school I was attending, including all grades for the pupils. Written in Pascal for the schools CP/M based machines. Was a teacher for the schools computer teachers, learning them the basics of CP/M and Pascal programming.
