I am a multi-disciplinary researcher, passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of people and places. I have been involved in a portfolio of projects, most recently the evaluation of place based approaches to food insecurity (University of Leeds), an examination of the role of traditional retail markets in sustainable food systems (University of Leeds), and the development and implementation of the Critical Sustainability Stories (CriSS) tool to improve the quality and impact of sustainability related communications (York St John University). My wider research interests include: - Exploring how to effectively increase physical activity through active travel, - Methods to improve the involvement of the public in research and public policy decisions, - Oral health equity My key skills include: ➢ Excellent written and verbal communication with over 40 peer-reviewed publications,➢ Strong presentation skills having delivered talks at national and international conferences and had several invites to deliver guest lectures. ➢ Enjoy working collaboratively with all stakeholders to effectively and efficiently deliver solutions that meet joint needs. ➢ Supervisory and mentorship experience at MSc and PhD levels. Research FellowUniversity Of Leeds Jan 2024 - Aug 2024Leeds, West Yorkshire, GbI worked on a collaborative research project with the Food Foundation to identify the social, environmental and economic benefits of place based food initiatives (e.g. food banks, food pantries, community cafes) in the UK and to assess the utility and impact of the Food Hub evaluation tool.During this project, I supported in the developing a stronger evidence base relating to PBFI, and explored the impact of these initiatives on community health and wellbeing, and on environmental health and sustainability across a range of settings. I led on the development of case studies, visiting 10 PBFI across the UK and undertaking observations and interviews at each site. I contributed to the development of several academic outputs including a report and papers. Moreover, to promote the dissemination and engagement with the public, I delivered several webinars, in collaboration with colleagues, sharing insights from the project, and facilitating ongoing discussion about the impacts of PBFI. -
Research AssistantUniversity Of Leeds Nov 2021 - Dec 2023Leeds, West Yorkshire, GbI have worked on several projects as a research assistant at the University of Leeds. 1. I worked with a research team from the UoL in collaboration with the WHO to undertake a rapid scoping review exploring the linkages between health systems and health security. The review was then used to inform the development of a framework, which has since been implemented by several WHO member states. 2. I worked with colleagues in the School of Geography, in collaboration with Bradford District Council, to develop two charters for a new market in Bradford. The charters sought to support the new market team to promote health and sustainability - working with traders and members of the public. 3. I worked with a research team in the School of Earth and Environment to develop a Food Hub evaluation tool. This tool was produced through a series of interviews, focus groups, observations and evaluations with food hubs based in Leeds. The tool is now being implemented in a larger project across the UK. -

Visiting Erskine FellowUniversity Of Canterbury Sep 2024 - Nov 2024Christchurch, Canterbury, NzInvited to the University of Canterbury as a visiting Erskine Fellow. During my fellowship I planned teaching for undergraduate students studying in the faculty of health (sports nutrition, health systems and health policy). I sought to utilise my knowledge from scholarship to develop the content, and also utilise my understanding of professional practice to inform my teaching. I was involved in the development of content for both in person and online courses, aiming to support a range of learners. I also undertook some training activities including internal and external seminars on recent research topics, and workshops with graduate students to support their career and research progression. I contributed to the evaluation and internal critical review of content in the BSc Healthy Sciences course, supporting the team in developing and/or adjusting content and teaching methods to support learning, and provide students with information about next steps. I supported the continuing professional development of students and colleagues by contributing to a writing retreat. I delivered content to support attendees enhance their skills in academic writing, and writing for a range of publications. Finally, I supported colleagues in undertaking the assessment of undergraduate assignments, reviewing student essays and providing feedback to a wide range of learners. -
