Since graduating from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in June 2015 I have been working as a small animal veterinary surgeon at Swan Veterinary Practice in Aberdeen. I enjoy all aspects of clinical, surgical and emergency work. Surgery however is my passion. I find it both fascinating and exciting. Some examples of emergency work I have performed are caesareans, pyometras, foreign body removals, stabilizing of RTA’s and a GDV gastropexy. Working originally as part of a team of three and latterly as a team of four vets between two practices, I am the sole responsible vet for a large proportion of the time. This has allowed me to develop both clinically and practically very quickly, with exposure to a large volume of clinical cases. The added responsibility of being the sole vet has allowed me to be assertive in making clinical decisions on a daily basis. I completed my Professional Development Phase for small animals in August 2016 in compliance with the RCVS requirements.
