Principal Ecologist at Exeter bringing over 16 years of experience in ecology in both the public and private sector. Gemma has a thorough appreciation of European and UK EIA & protected species legislation. She holds Natural England Licences for bats and common dormouse and her protected species survey skills include: otter, water vole, common dormouse, badger, reptiles, great crested newts, breeding birds, bat roost and activity surveys, mitigation and environmental design. Gemma has secured EPS Licences for both Common dormouse and Great Crested Newts whilst at PB, and has provided key inputs to bat licences. Gemma is particulalry interested in bats, dormice, otters and road mitigation projects.

Gemma was a senior environmental scientist and ecologist at Halcrow for over 10 years. She delivered environmental projects and ecological mitigation on the ground for large complex infrastructure schemes for the public sector including Boscatle Flood Defence Scheme. During her employment she was on secodment to the Environment Agency for one year and the Highways Agency for two years. She is the primary author of a Highways Agency publication on the severance of bat flight commuting routes by roads to inform DMRB Volume 10 Interim Advice Note on Bats.
