Project overview: Use of fragment-based libraries and libraries derived from diversity orientated synthesis, for the development of small molecule anti-cancer inhibitors of kinases, nuclear receptors and bromodomains. Hit identification and hit-to-lead chemistry from both traditional fragment libraries and novel ‘FragLite’ library. Expansion of FragLite library to map and identify protein-protein interaction hot spots with new ‘PepLite’ library.

Rotated in three different roles across research and development, each of 7–9-month duration: 1. Process Chemist in Early Chemical Development, Respiratory Project overview: Designing, implementing, developing, and evaluating new synthetic routes to a single candidate compound with more desirable process and plant chemistry requirements (e.g., convergent synthesis, fewer synthetic steps and impurities, greater yields and improved atom economy)Insight into: Process and plant chemistry requirements, thorough analysis and development of a single step within synthetic routes and the transitions from medicinal chemistry to process to plant. 3. Medical Scientist in Early Clinical Development, Oncology Project overview: Clinical literature and database research and contributing to the running of a phase I oncology clinical trial. Insight into: Conducting clinical trials and patient perspective from clinic visits.
