About Gemma Radley (Bsc Hons, Phd)

Gemma began her career in research studying the compatibility of ventricular assist devices (VADs) on immune cells and the implications for device design. Her PhD findings suggest that the choice of material in the presence of shear stress induced by these pumps might be a contributing factor to patient recurrent infection rates. She spent two years in academia where she discovered a passion for teaching and made the decision to move into secondary education. Gemma is now a teacher of chemistry to pupils aged 11 to 18. She also provides alternative provision for pupils out of school (Science and Maths).
