In this role I continued to develop imara’s training programme, working with Imara therapists, CHISVAs, and our participation group to coproduce training. Throughout my time at Imara I coordinated several paid and voluntary training sessions to a range of organisations, as well as taking part in the delivery of training and workshops. I also represented imara at outreach events.In addition to Training Coordination, I also facilitated our Participation Group, young people with experience of CSA. This involved developing trusting relationships with the young people and creating a regular safe, comfortable, and inclusive space for them to be able to have their voices heard and improve support services, meet others with similar experiences to make friends, and have fun!

As an intern at Imara, I began creating and developing our training programme. This research internship saw me develop a detailed understanding of the customer base and work closely with other members of the Imara team.Imara extended my internship, continuing my project on the training programme whilst also covering some of the key admin roles. These key roles include managing phone and email enquiries and logging contacts into our Customer Relationship Management system.

Through my role as the Liberations Officer, I focussed on the key three areas of Equality, Inclusivity and Diversity to ensure our society was accessible and welcoming of people from all backgrounds. I learned a tremendous amount and gained key experience working with a wide range of people. I also had the opportunity to organise, advertise and run my own events, such as for key celebrations including International Women’s Day. Through this role I attended a 5-hour training course centred around inclusion and liberations, as well as attending regular Liberations Council meetings to stay informed on issues and events.

As well as being a part of Blowsoc Concert band, Brass band and Wind Orchestra throughout university, I was elected Treasurer of this student society. This role involved managing the bands finances by monitoring and approving spending. I also successfully took on the task of writing our funding applications, where we were granted the full amount of funding we applied for. For this role I had to be organised by creating cashflow and budgeting documents to track finances, as well as to enable me to balance my university work alongside this role. As part of the Blowsoc committee I also took initiative in expanding our outreach program, adapting our previous activities during the pandemic to work with people with learning disabilities who may have felt isolated. Creating this partnership with a local community centre who I volunteered with highlights my understanding of the value of connections within the community as well as my passion for music as a powerful tool for helping people.
