About Gemma Westbrook

I am a motivated policy professional, with varied experience in government and the charity sector. I have worked both in the briefing and correspondence team and in the domestic decarbonisation team within Maritime in the Department for Transport. Previously to this, I worked as a Policy Intern at Universities UK, leading on domestic immigration policy.I have developed policy from the early stages and am very experienced in briefing Ministers and senior officials. I have also been involved in developing major events, including London International Shipping Week 2021 and the Merchant Navy Medal. Within my current role, I am leading decarbonising domestic maritime vessels where I am developing multiple early stage policies. I also lead on Operation Zero, the Government-industry initiative committed to getting zero emission offshore wind service vessels in the water.I am passionate about diversity and inclusion and am currently Chair of the Maritime D&I group. I host lunch and learn sessions highlighting D&I in transport and improving processes internally for the benefit of all colleagues.
