Anthracene tagged biomoleculesVarious projects to artificially tag oligonucleotides and peptide for a variety of purposes. Anthracene derivatives have been synthesised to allow for incorporation into peptide and oligonucleotide sequences. The fluorescence and photodimerisation properties of anthracene can then be used for a variety of purposes include single nucelotide polymorphism detection, controlling biomolecule dimerisation and manipulating secondary structures. Multiple analytical techniques have been used throughout these projects including HPLC, mass spectrometry, NMR, gel electrophoresis, CD spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy.In addition to research I have taken on several roles within the groups that I am a member of including running the DNA synthesiser, making and maintaining the group website, organising social events and training newer members of the group on various techniques.
