R&D Senior Research AssociateCabot Corporation May 2006 - Oct 2015Boston, Ma, UsCabot Corporation Career Highlights:• Scaled up hydrogen peroxide treatment of carbon black used in toners. The process was commercialized and generates revenue.• Designed and carried out experiments of polyamine treatment of calcined silica. Designed, fabricated, and installed continuous mixing, granulation, and product handling system for 30 percent of the cost quoted by outside equipment suppliers. The customer, who previously had relied on a crude, bench-scale batch process, has successfully commercialized the product using the improved continuous process and has sold many units. • Designed and executed reactor for silane treatment of calcined silica. Successfully applied novel spraying and mixing techniques. The project allowed a 100% increase of the existing batch process capacity permitting Cabot to provide new products to customers.• Constructed bench-scale equipment for oxidation of carbon black pigments used in toners and coatings. Successfully reached 20% oxidation levels, attaining quality characteristics significantly greater than highest market standards.R&D Senior Research Associate • Independently carried out in-house scale-up processes and, in coordination with Cabot manufacturing sites and toll manufacturers, executed the commercialization of new products used in toners, coating, CO2 adsorption, liquid crystal displays (LCD) materials, and water-based pigments and inks.• Prepared process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for 13 pilot-scale units.• Designed, fabricated, and installed 16 lab- and pilot-scale unit• Reviewed and implemented all aspects of design and construction for consistency and safety, including HAZOP's, SOP's, PSSR,s for 18 projects.• Planned, designed, and performed design of experiments (DoE).• Executed statistical data analyses for multiple projects using JMP statistical software.• Prepared and presented experimental data and results. -
Research AssociateCabot Corporation Oct 2004 - May 2006Boston, Ma, Us• Conducted experiments and prepared new modified carbon black and platinum(Pt)-based catalysts for fuel cells. • Built lab scale unit for Ion exchange, dead-end filtration, and diafiltration (TFF) of water-based inks.• Supported several projects with analytical analysis such as ICP, DCP, TEM, X-Rite, Na+, K+ instruments. -
Quality Control ChemistCabot Corporation Apr 2004 - Oct 2004Boston, Ma, Us• In Situ and final product evaluation of ink dispersion, polymers, and Ion Exchange Resin. • Conducted particle size analysis, particle size counting, conductivity, viscosity, and surface tension analysis.
