About Gene (E.C.) Ayres

With a long and eclectic history as a writer, filmmaker, columnist and film critic in New York, Florida, and Hollywood, writing for Harper’s Magazine, Running Times, Worldwatch Magazine, PBS, various newspapers, commercial television and animation studios, Universal Studios and Warner Brothers, my award winning Tony Lowell Mystery series from St. Martin's Press is now back in publication with updated editions, with a new publisher, Speaking Volumes. A new fifth book of the series is also in preparation. A new series, The Jake Fleming Investigations, begins this year (2020) with A Tiger's Heart, to be followed by As Darkness Falls, and Black Dragon River. Jake is an investigative reporter, working primarily overseas, with a young daughter, now an actress. Booktrope after a decade's hiatus beginning with a new fifth novel, Red Tide, this coming year.Recently I spent three years living and working in China as a "Foreign Expert," teaching English at a major state university in Harbin. My recent book on these adventures, Inside the New China, published by Transaction Publishing of Rutgers University, is available wherever books are sold.My literary thriller Il Libro Segredo di Shakespeare, a mystery in the Da Vinci Code tradition, was published in Rome in 2011 under my pseudonym John Underwood, and became a quick bestseller in its Italian edition. (See The Shakespeare Chronicles page.) This book has now been translated into seven languages (not yet available in English). A second book in this new Jake Fleming Disclosures series, Il Libro Segreto di Sherlock Holmes, was released in Rome in April of 2013. (see above re. an English language edition of both books).
