Lead the company into new technologies and innovative designs. Build the talent base and IP within the company to achieve outstanding results. These included a novel trans-critical CO2 compressor and system, smart mobile system, an expander to produce electricity from waste heat, and global standardization of many different regional compressor designs.

Manage global advanced R&D and reliability groups involved in scroll compressors. US/Scroll Tech, France, and China. New products, designs, refrigerants, innovation. Lead IP effort at Scroll Tech. Lot's of customer interaction. Lot's of trips to Lyon, Denmark, China. Now up to about 30 patents.

Managed entire engineering function of 70 people at Danfoss/Scroll Tech including new ideas, IP, product development, lab, model shop, factory support, and reliability. Involved in global integration of Scroll Tech into Danfoss. Some customer activity.

Partnership between Bristol Compressors (York) and Carlyle (Carrier). Created the engineering department including the lab and model shop. Improved the old design, created NxGen an innovative scroll design based on simple manufacturing. Attracted and led a group of highly talented and motivated people who became a productive and creative team. I became a good leader during this time. This Engineering Dept was possibly the greatest single value of Scroll Tech when sold to Danfoss.

Began a scroll design analytical model, built a model shop, researched competitive scrolls and IP, generated 5 separate scroll concepts to running hardware with IP coverage. Became obsessed with scroll compressors, along with Joe Hill. Independantly learned about scroll design beginning with Purdue Conference papers. Began working on co-rotating from Lacrosse. Ideas, visions, passion, freedom, excitement, dynamic team emerged, sold the vision to Kampouris, wrong manager hired, fire went out, left Trane 3 times, program eventually died.

Back to engineering, tough challenge starting over but everything clicked. Involved with upgrading the recip compressor design and manufacturing operation. Automation, demand flow, lean manufacturing, innovative thought... became passionate about engineering again.

Released 5 CD’s of original prog rock, somewhat based on Tolkien's work: Join the Celebration, Two Feet Tall, Rockin’ the Shire, Lost & Found, and All for the One. In the movie “Ringers-Lord of the Fans”. Website: hobbitband.com. Opened large shows for Cheap Trick, Loverboy, Quiet Riot, Night Ranger, and Humble Pie. It was an unforgetable experience and we almost made it, but afterward I carried the same passion back into Engineering. No regrets at all.

Started as maintenance engineer, learned the entire factory, nuts and bolts, bearings, machining, relay logic. Learned from Dick Berkhouse. Big opportunity taking Spine Fin from a bad operation to a model for the factory; Stuben Award.
