Gene has a broad background of award-winning excellence in the military, industry, and academia; including both technical and leadership positions. He has worked as a programmer, test director, technical intelligence analysis engineer, wide area network manager, in multiple electronic warfare positions, and taught electrical engineering technology at Purdue for 18 years. His military awards include being a distinguished graduate in both of his communications officer training classes, outstanding company grade officer (CGO) of the year in a unit with 250 CGOs, an exceptional service citation from the director of the CIA, and communications work center awards all three years he was in Europe. He also held a TS-SCI clearance. In his 18 years at Purdue he taught 25 different courses and the associated labs, including analog, digital, computer, and RF courses. He won awards for outstanding faculty in both learning and engagement, and was a 2017-2018 Purdue Scholarship of Engagement Fellow. Moreover, Gene was course coordinator of two ECET courses, and the only ECET course coordinator outside of main campus. One of those courses, Military RF Electronic Applications, was a unique course in electronic warfare that he created from scratch.
