I am a 3rd year Ph.D. student in the Urban Schooling division at the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA. My research interests are positioned at the intersection of Black Studies and Education and are primarily concerned with conceptualizing, developing, and implementing more liberatory models of education for Black students. My work explores the utility of counterhegemonic all-Black educational spaces in cultivating Black students’ liberatory consciousness. I also examine counter-narratives to hegemonic narratives of school desegregation in order to uncover how anti-blackness and Black suffering manifested in previously all-white schools throughout the second half of the twentieth century. I am also an abolitionist whose research and praxis are guided by the imperative of abolishing all forms of carcerality and the belief that another world is possible.
