Vice President Of EngineeringPixelligent Technologies Feb 2009 - May 2016Baltimore, Md, UsAfter the restructuring of Pixelligent, I was named VP of Engineering and Co-Founder of the newly emerged company. During this period Pixelligent Technologies evolved as an advanced materials company that delivers next generation materials for demanding applications in solid-state lighting, flat panel displays, and optical components & films. My responsibilities as VP of Technology at Pixelligent include:— Strategic planning of new technology development— Intellectual Property portfolio and strategy management— Developing and managing government R&D programs for advanced materials and devices— Managing collaborative research activities with industrial partners, universities and national labs.My achievements during this period include:► Playing a leadership role in the company’s transition into a leading optical nanomaterial provider.► Managing the “skunkworks” team that focusing on new technology and applications, including the applications of nanocomposites for LED and OLED light extraction, as anti-wear additives for advanced lubricants, as high dielectric coatings, as thermal management materials, etc.► Capturing and managing more than $4M of government and industrial R&D programs for advanced materials and devices. -
Senior ScientistPixelligent Technologies Jun 2006 - Feb 2009Baltimore, Md, UsDuring this period, I played critical role in pivoting the company from developing programmable photo-mask to Reversible Contrast Enhancement (R-CEL) which I co-invented. My main achievements in this role include:► Leading a collaborative effort with Fraunhofer Institute to model the Reversible Contrast Enhancement (R-CEL) for double-exposure optical lithography and identify the optimal process parameters.► Capturing and managing more than $4M of government grants, including as the Principle Investigators of a 2006 NSF SBIR Phase I Project (Award No. 0539211) and a 2007 NSF SBIR Phase II Project (Award No. 0724417), and serving as senior management of a 2007 NIST ATP Project (Award No. 70NANB7H7014), to develop an R-CEL for 193 nm optical lithography based on wide bandgap semiconductor nanocrystals.► Independently designing, building, and programming a state-of-the-art, time-resolved 193 nm laser pump-probe spectroscopy system to study the dynamic absorption of the nanocrystals, a 193 nm z-scan system to measure the optical non-linearity of the nanocrystals, and Photoluminescence Excitation (PLE) system to probe the electronic structure of the nanocrystals. -
Founding Member & Staff ScientistPixelligent Technologies Nov 2001 - Jun 2006Baltimore, Md, UsPixelligent was founded to develop a revolutionary programmable optical lithography to dramatically reduce costs for the semiconductor industry. I was invited by a graduate school classmate to become a Founding Member of Pixelligent. I was excited by the potential of this technology and shared their vision, so I joined the company. During this period, I was the technical lead in developing a UV optical modulator, a key building block of programmable photo-mask for advanced lithography. My main achievements included:► Leading a development project, together with Dai Nippon Printing, to provide a proof-of-concept of a wide bandgap nanocrystals-based optical modulator; designing the test modulator structure, testing system, and carrying out characterization and data analysis.► Co-inventing several applications of wide bandgap semiconductor nanocrystals for 193 nm optical lithography, including R-CEL, programmable photo-mask, and high-n immersion fluid; Performing in-house analytical modeling and Monte-Carlo simulation of the R-CEL using MATLAB.► Developing the world’s first GaN/AlGaN thin film based electro-optical modulator, in collaboration with North Carolina State University:► Modeling and simulating the absorbance of the modulator as a function of applied electrical field using MATLAB► Designing and the optical system to test the modulator array► Authoring numerous government and industrial proposals for developing a programmable photo-mask for optical projection lithography based on a large array of such electro-optics modulator. -
