With a self-serve business model, the software runs on automated processes. I designed, developed, and implemented this software independently from the ground up. This software was utilized by Boise State University as their campus shuttle tracker for four years, in which time it was used to track and display shuttle location in real-time to guide the public and campus population who used the shuttle service. Now, the software has been expanded to be a self-serve, low cost, complete vehicle tracking solution. Optimized for smaller mass transit operations, MyTrax GPS offers a user-friendly interface that eliminates the need for sales calls, contract negotiations, vendor guided set-up, and all of the other overhead and bloat of larger software operations. My knowledge of the parking industry is unique in that I have worked in nearly every aspect of the industry, having began as a parking enforcer, worked in the office dealing directly with customers, managing the IT infrastructure of a University parking department, and independently developing software solutions for parking. As a result, I have the ability to both communicate in a non-technical way to the clients and understand their needs on a personal level, and to communicate to the development team at the technical level required to allow them to understand the client's need.In addition to these responsibilities, I also did a fair amount of coding and database design and management. I independently developed several pieces of enterprise software currently in use, and created multiple components of the enterprise system in cooperation with the development team. In my time there, I developed many web-based software solutions including: a time clock with integrated NFC reader, a GPS shuttle tracker with real-time display of University shuttle positions, an event inventory management system, a parking reservation system, and many more.In addition to these software development projects, I was responsible for set-up and management of Unbuntu servers, management of a Microsoft Windows Server, creating and managing the budget for my department, ordering and maintaining the entire IT infrastructure of the department, creation of complex Microsoft Excel worksheets with macro scripting, managing the back-end parking operations system, and design/management of the public-facing departmental website. As the co-owner and web developer for this home-based small business, I designed from the ground up a business website that was self-supporting for over five years. This included not only my core web development skills (PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS), but also a complete spectrum of marketing and analytics tools needed to drive the business forward in the crowded and competitive internet marketplace.

I was what is known at Disneyland as a "Face Actor", meaning I worked in the park as a character who wears a costume and make-up, and speaks and interacts with the public directly. Disneyland has very strict policies regarding their characters, and this job required an absolute dedication to embodying the character at all times. Breaking character when "on stage" (anytime the public may see or hear you) means immediate termination.This was a rewarding, if exhausting, job. Though looking at the dates I worked at The Cabaret reveals it was a comparatively short while, this job looms large in my memory and seems to have been a much larger part of my life than the duration would suggest. It was the first job where I ever had managerial responsibility, and the freedom to formulate my own management style. The owners gave me the freedom to really shine as a manager, and I successfully implemented sales campaigns and bonus programs that drove the business forward. This was my first job out of college, utilizing my BA in Psychology. I worked with at-risk children and teens, most of whom had behavioral issues that had gotten them in trouble with the police. I developed individualized programs for each child to work with the parents and the rest of their family to help steer the child in a more positive direction and eliminate their specific behavioral issues. I also met with each child on a weekly basis to council and observe them, to help tailor the behavioral approach necessary to guide them.I found this job deeply rewarding, and simultaneously soul-crushing. It was so hard to see humans reduced to numbers by the state, and all too often we did not have the resources to really give the kids what they needed to flourish. I observed first-hand how systemic poverty reinforces the behavioral stereotypes we have as a society, and how difficult a burden that is to overcome. I really feel like this experience grew me as a person, and informed my entire outlook on life moving forward. I am grateful for the experience. Show less
