Gene brings 25 years of executive search experience to his role at Herbert Mines Associates where he has been a Managing Director since 1998. In addition, Gene has prior experience working in the retail sector as a consultant, real estate developer, entrepreneur, and attorney. Gene has completed hundreds of searches during his career and has worked with both young, game changing and innovative clients, as well as major, established Fortune 100 companies. Gene has been a frequent speaker at the WWD CEO Summit, as well as at the Wharton School Baker Retailing Center. He is known for his laser-focus on achieving outstanding outcomes for his clients and has a vast network of contacts within the retail, digital and consumer sectors that are his focus. Gene works closely with C-level executives in public, private and private equity-backed B2C and B2B companies.Prior to joining Herbert Mines Associates, Gene worked at Sullivan & Company, a division of Heidrick & Struggles. Preceding executive search, Gene’s retail industry experience includes being a partner in a real estate development and consulting company that specialized in the retail sector. Gene was also a cofounder of an international apparel manufacturer which produced products for US retailers. In addition, Gene was a partner in a law firm where he worked closely with major national shopping center developers and tenants. Gene earned a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania and received his law degree from Syracuse University.
