Representative examples of helping federal and corporate clients manage nature-based risk and overcome sediment challenges:• Primary author New York-New Jersey Dredged Material Strategic Plan, worked with a committee of federal, state and local agencies, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, business groups and advocacy organizations to craft a 15-year maintenance dredging material plan. • Lead author of Beneficial Use chapter - Long Island Sound Dredged Material Management Plan and Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement.• Linked contaminated dredged material to upland revitalization creating pioneering New England regional processing facility, creating an alternative to landfilling and ocean disposal. • Developed plan to use agroforestry in the upper watershed to protect coral reef health in Guam. • Directed field investigations, dredging design and other services for various U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command projects in New England and Mid-Atlantic states.• Lead Post-Fukushima compliant flood barrier design for nuclear generating facility.Viridian Alliance, Inc. is a Small Business engaged in planning and sustainability.

Gene developed a sediment group business and marketing plan for addressing sediment management in sustainability service areas including climate change adaptation, habitat restoration and beneficial use. He directed the Phase I Removal Project of Passaic River Removal Action (Lower Passaic River Superfund site, New Jersey) from conception through preliminary engineering design, managing a multi-million dollar budget and a 45-person interdisciplinary team located across the U.S. and in Europe. He promoted the expansion of sediment and estuarine restoration services to South America and Asia.

As Sediment Practice Leader, Gene coordinated 200 practitioners, marketing and communication to expand the practice. He advised government, private and internal clients on navigational dredging, contaminated sediment remediation and restoration projects.
