Gene M. Ransom III is the current CEO of MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society. He is a life-long resident of Queen Anne's County, and former President of the County Commission. Gene was elected to the Queen Anne's County Commission in November 2002, and was the only incumbent County Commissioner re-elected in the 2006 election. Ransom graduated cum laude from The University of Maryland with honors in economics, and the University of Baltimore School of Law.As MedChi executive Ransom works to implement MedChi’s mission as an advocate for physicians, patients, and the public health of Maryland. MedChi is the largest physician organization in Maryland. MedChi is a leader in transformation and pro-physician value-based care work under Ransom’s leadership. He has played a key role in the development and implementation of both the Episode Quality Improvement Program and the Maryland Primary Care Program. During his tenure MedChi membership has increased and MedChi developed new lines of business benefiting physicians and the society. When elected, at thirty-one, Gene made history as the youngest Commissioner ever to serve Queen Anne's County. During his time as Commissioner, he fought to improve growth management and environmental policy by helping pass landmark APFO legislation and an improved Comprehensive plan. Gene fought for fiscal responsibility, voting for a balanced budget every year in office while reducing the Queen Anne’s Property tax rate by over twenty cents during his time in office. Ransom played an instrumental role in the bipartisan effort to procure the first full service twenty four hour emergency room coming to Queen Anne’s County.Ransom served in numerous leadership positions during his career, including President of the Queen Anne's Commission, Vice President of the Queen Anne's Commission, and as a voting member of the Queen Anne's County Planning Commission from 2004-2005, Gene also served the public as an elected member of the Democratic Central Committee (1998-2002), a member of the 2008 Electoral College, President of the Young Democrats of Maryland as well as numerous local and state appointments to Boards and Commissions. Currently he is the Chair of the Queen Anne's County Liquor Board, Chair of the Maryland EQIP Committee, is a member of the Maryland Primary Care Advisory Council, and the current Chair of the Maryland Loan Repayment Advisory Board.Specialties: Gene has a background in management, economics, politics, health policy, health law and value based care.
