I was recruited into the newly formed operating organization at the startup of a new petrochemical plant in Sines, Portugal following my role within the construction of the plant. My immediate responsibility was to set up the document control system within the Engineering and Maintenance department, ensuring that all as built information was clearly identified and located and that all OEM information was suitably catalogued and indexed. I set up maintenance history files for all of the tagged items within the SAP Engineering Maintenance module and linked all spares to the tagged items. I was also responsible for raising purchase requisitions for all materials and services associated with the maintenance operation. Overall spend was €3M per annum. Together with the Engineering and Maintenance Director I developed a set of key performance indicators to be used as monthly metrics. I was responsible for collecting and validating the data collected and for producing a report that was presented to the board of Artlant each month.After a period during which the engineering and maintenance organization became established I was promoted to the role of cost coordinator. In this role I took responsibility of the estimating and cost monitoring and control for the annual maintenance budget, the overhaul budget and all project works. I measured the cost performance and effectiveness of contracted services and made recommendations where improvements in cost effectiveness could be made.Unfortunately Artlant suffered from significant funding issues and I was made redundant along with several other employees.

Responsible for the general administration of a 35 strong construction office of predominantly expat engineers. This included day to day communications within the Jacobs team as well as administration between several on and off site contractors. Responding directly to the Jacobs site manager I looked after the general requirements of the construction team including travel arrangements, accommodation and any issues arising from the habitation of expats in a foreign country. I was also responsible for ensuring that the vast amount of construction design documentation generated was transmitted effectively between Jacobs, their India based design affiliate and the onsite construction contractors in compliance with QA management systems.In this role I became the go-to person to resolve issues, both on and off the site.
