As pop music critic for the Post-Intelligencer, I reported on popular music on the regional and national levels. Responsibilities included artist interviews, previews, reviews, features and trend stories, breaking news, supervision of freelance writers, section planning and editing, and occasional reporting on other beats in a fast-paced environment.

Responsible for popular music and entertainment coverage spanning three decades of local, regional and national acts. Highlights:Served on high-powered team of reporters and editors who followed Kurt Cobain's tragic death. Wrote daily, front-page stories that beat many national media outlets. Conducted several exclusive interviews with Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, and was the only reporter to attend Cobain's memorial service.Landed an exclusive interview with Dave Matthews, of the Dave Matthews Band, that brought thousands of additional readers to the P-I's print and online editions.Wrote comprehensive front-page story that brought city-wide attention to pending fire code regulation affecting dozens of major Seattle nightclubs, resulting in changes to the law and a more realistic compliance deadline.Conducted and wrote interviews with hundreds of musicians including Eddie Vedder, James Taylor, Quincy Jones and other national and regional artists.Wrote blogs on the death of Seattle musician Ian Fisher of the Cowboys, a beloved Seattle rock band of the 1980s, which enabled fans to organize a public memorial for the deceased musician.
