Geneva started her career in the field of mental retardation and developmental disabilities when she moved to Toledo January 1, 1988, to work with Zeigler Homes. She was a direct care provider for three months to get hands-on experience in the field before becoming first, a QMRP, then a behavior support consultant.

During the past 20 years, I have written for a number of local newspaper and was on the staff of three: The Toledo Journal, The Paper, and The Sojourner's Truth. At The Journal, I was a proofreader, editorial writer, features writer, and columnist. My column "Chit-Chat" was later published in The Paper. I also had a story published in The Toledo Women's Magazine (no longer published) and The Toledo City Paper. My last paying newspaper job was at The Sojourner Truth where I was a reporter from April 2002 (when the paper was first published) until July of 2009, shortly after retiring from my fulltime position as a manager for the local county board of MR/DD. Presently, I write on several blogs, however, most of my writing since retirement has been developing curriculum for day programs for MR/DD, fiction writing (I finished my first novel in January 2009), and editing/re-writing plays (I entered four one-acts in the National Black Theatre Festival's Readers' Theatre competition for 2009, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina). I also write poetry, music, and inspirational books (my book, "Finding God's Secret Place" is available for free downloads at Scribd.com). I have also published one curriculum guide which is also available on Scribd.
