Editor-In-Chief And Environmental Justice Consultant
The Ramapo EcoConsultants are a student environmental analysis and consulting firm. We produced an Environmental Impact Assessment on the physical, social and ecological impacts of the proposed Pilgrim Pipelines for three regional environmental organizations and five clients. The Pilgrim Pipelines are a proposed pipeline project consisting of two separate 178-mile long underground lines that will transport Bakken crude oil and refined petroleum products from Albany, New York, to Linden, New Jersey. I worked as the Environmental Justice Consultant and Editor-In-Chief for the Pilgrim Pipeline Environmental Impact Assessment. As Editor-In-Chief I was responsible for managing three sub-editors, and overseeing the work of the 23 student writers. I was in charge of editing, revising and finalizing the entire Environmental Impact Statement, a 286 page document. My other responsibilities included working together with team leaders to motivate student writers and ensure sections were completed on time. I organized firm meetings with the Project Managers, formatted the entire document, and oversaw the compilation of references and internal citations. I was responsible for editing the individual sections of the document for grammar and flow. I also advised the student writers and provided personal assistance with writing. In addition to my work as Editor-In-Chief I was responsible for the Environmental Justice section within the Environmental Impact Assessment. The Environmental Justice section assessed the impact of the construction and operation of the Pilgrim Pipelines on vulnerable populations such as minorities, those living in low-income areas, elderly persons, children, and indigenous peoples. I performed extensive research on patterns of exposure and disproportionate environmental and health impacts which may indicate a potential for a cumulative exposure impact.
