As a seasoned corporate lawyer, I build relationships, provide pragmatic advice to manage complex issues and govern not-for-profit entities. I'm relishing my return to the research sector at a time of renewal for the Australian Research Council.It follows nearly 7 years at Austrade. As a certified aviation nerd, my highlight was managing the legal arrangements for the International Freight Assistance Program - IFAM - the Australian Government's $1 billion program to keep global air links open in response to the ongoing effects of COVID-19. Managing the legals for Australia's Nation Brand came a close second. I also acted as Chief Counsel, running the legal, procurement and fraud functions.In my 3 years at Airservices Australia, I focused on technology contracts and disputes. Airservices marked a return to law after a year at the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, as the Acting Chief Financial Officer and then governance manager.This built on 11 fascinating years at the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) as general counsel, board secretary and Executive Manager Legal and Procurement. My highlight at GRDC was the national and international management of plant genetic resources. After leaving GRDC I kept involved as a member of the compliance committee of the International Treaty for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, and occasional member of working groups to assist the Treaty's Governing Body, until 2017.Between November 2015 and November 2020 I was a director on the Board of National Health Co-operative Limited. I was also a director on company boards and audit committees for over a decade whilst at the GRDC.
