I have been involved in building control for over 45 Years. I worked 12 years in Local Government and went into private practice in 1988. I am now the Managing Director and Principal Building Surveyor for GMA Certification Group which is one of the largest private certification companies based in State of Queensland, Australia.I hold undergraduate qualifications in Building Surveying, post graduate in Fire Safety Design and a Masters of Urban Planning.I am a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors, having been Queensland/NT State President 1997 – 2001 and the National President from 2000 -2002. I retired from the Board of AIBS in 2011 after 12 years of service.I am still actively involved in many Australian Standards and from 2001 to 2018 served on the Building Codes Committee of the Australian Building Codes Board which is responsible for the technical content of the Building Code of AustraliaThrough my committee involvement I was part of the working groups that developed the private certification regime in Queensland. I chaired the committee which developed the current education criteria for Building Surveyors and the National Accreditation FrameworkI am a Teaching Fellow at Bond University, lecturing the Building Controls and Regulation and Understanding Buildings. I have presented numerous papers both nationally and internationally on the Building Surveying ProfessionI am passionate about Building Surveying and have actively fought for the Building Surveying Profession at all levels of government.
