Geoffrey Nelson is Professor of Psychology and a faculty member in the graduate program in Community Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University. He has served as Senior Editor of the Canadian Journal of Community Mental Health and Chair of the Community Psychology Section of the Canadian Psychological Association. Professor Nelson has held a Senior Research Fellowship from the Ontario Mental Health Foundation and in 1999 he was the recipient (with the Canadian Mental Health Association/Waterloo Region Branch) of the Harry McNeill Award for Innovation in Community Mental Health from the American Psychological Foundation and the Society for Community Research and Action. In 2004-05, he was University Research Professor at Laurier. He received the award for Distinguished Contributions to Community Psychology Theory and Research from the Society for Community Research and Action in 2013. His research and practice has focused on community mental health programs and supports for people with serious mental illness and community-based prevention programs for children and families.
