About Geoff Simpson

I was a print designer, photographer, and commercial art director for 20+ years and have quite a broad skillset related to marketing and production. In my BSW education and placements, I gained extensive clinical and community-based experience working with the CAMH Drug Treatment Court Program and the Fife House Foundation. I value both for the critical experiences they facilitated, for helping me to more deeply appreciate the lived realities of those who don't share my privileges, and for empowering me to be more effective in enacting critical and anti-oppressive perspectives in my learning, practice, and research. My ideal position involves supporting the practical day-to-day needs of clients while directing an eye toward addressing systemic flaws that perpetuate inequity and injustice. I can be an organizational and policy wonk, so I am especially appreciative that my placements pushed me to get out of the office and learn with colleagues and community members at a grass-roots level.As a supporter of collaborative and anti-racist engagement, I advocate for harm reduction, people living with HIV, people who use drugs, those experiencing homelessness, those immigrating and/or fleeing harm, and equity of access and care for People of Colour, Black communities, and Indigenous Peoples.I recently completed my Bachelor of Social Work with distinction (and minors/certificates in Criminology, Psychology, Mental Health and Addiction, and Community Engagement). I am pleased to be undertaking my MSW at UofT this fall and to participate in their cooperative specialization in addictions. I am especially interested in Forensic Social Work, Addictions, and empowering those who’ve experienced trauma.
