Researching methods for preparing poorly-crystalline aluminium oxyhydroxide gels for use as vaccine adjuvants

Working in the commercial and risk team I supported the finance performance management framework and was responsible for the risk and business continuity portfolios for finance operations. I also designed and implemented a pricing and recharge model for all of Fonterra’s financial services.

In this role I was responsible for maintaining the asset risk database and analysing risks for physical assets. The role involved working closely with engineers, analysts and management. I provided support to engineers and commercial analysts in justifying projects using cost-benefit analyses and helping write business cases. I performed insurance optimisation analysis, prepared various yearly and monthly reports, and assisted with the budgeting process. I supported corporate risk reporting and analysis, updated business continuity plans and helped design and plan business continuity exercises. Developed a new method for calculating expected duration of concurrent asset outage for production trains.

Research Scientist for the Commercial group developing new vaccine products for the NZ market and providing support to existing vaccine products. Performed numerous target animal field trials.

Prepared and validated immunological reagents, monitored the performance of tests and solved testing issues for the QC immunology laboratory.

Maintained the master seed inventory by making and testing new bacterial seeds for production.

Developed and validated a new assay used to optimise a process in the production facility. Use of the new assay helped maximise production yields for C. perfringens A toxoid antigen, reduced production costs, freed up production capacity, and enabled a new chicken enteritis vaccine to be developed (protected by patents US9662380 B2; US8980283 B2; EP1874344 B1; CN101198352 B; and CA2606180 C)

Validated two in vitro vaccine potency assays to support the registration of a new product in the EU.

Tested aflatoxins, pesticides, and various medicinal compounds using HPLC and GC, and assisted other researchers with their projects
